What is in the food database ?
The food database of our two digital tools, EkiYou Carbs and EkiYou®, is similar. It contains over 400,000 generic foods as well as commercial brands. The data comes from the CIQUAL database and has all been verified according to a well-defined validation process.
How to add a food to the food database ?
For safety purposes and to prevent any potential mistakes, the food database contained in our digital solutions is not collaborative. This means that no user can add a food item to the database. On the other hand, if a food is not in our database, it is possible on EkiYou® or EkiYou Carbs to submit a request to add a food. Our technical team collects the requests, analyzes them and adds the foods concerned.
EkiYou®
How to access EkiYou® ?
EkiYou is a digital therapy, like any therapy, it must be prescribed.
If you are a patient, you can suggest to your doctor to contact us at the email address hello@diappymed.com. We will then be happy to present EkiYou and its features in more detail.
If you are a healthcare professional, we would be delighted to introduce you to EkiYou and its features, if you are interested you can request a demonstration.
How to create an account ?
After receiving a prescription, the patient downloads EkiYou® and creates an account by:
- Entering an email address
- Reading and accepting the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy
- Entering the verification code received by email
- Choosing and confirming a password
To activate access, the patient must enter either his paper prescription or a code if the prescription was issued via the AppThera platform.
How to set up EkiYou® ?
Once the account is created and the prescription validated, the patient can configure their account by completing personal information and calculation parameters.
The patient must enter:
-
Their daily long-acting insulin dose
-
Their daily rapid-acting insulin dose
Based on these values, EkiYou calculates the total daily insulin dose and estimates the correction factor and carbohydrate ratios. If these parameters are already known and defined with a physician, they can be entered directly for better personalization.
If there are any questions, the patient should consult their diabetologist or contact support.
How to calculate a meal bolus with EkiYou® ?
To calculate a meal bolus with EkiYou®, the patient opens the application, taps the “+” button on the home screen, and then selects “Bolus calculation.” The patient then enters the meal by searching for or scanning the consumed foods and specifying the quantities. Recent or upcoming physical activity may also be added if it occurred within 1 hour and 30 minutes before or after the meal. The patient then enters their blood glucose level, ideally measured within the last 15 minutes. A summary screen allows the patient to review and adjust the information before EkiYou® calculates a bolus recommendation. The proposed dose can then be adjusted if necessary and saved so that it appears in the logbook and on the home screen graph.
Why is it important to enter physical activity when calculating a bolus ?
Physical activity performed by the patient around mealtime has a significant impact on blood glucose levels; therefore, it is important to take it into account when adjusting insulin bolus doses. Conversely, physical activity performed more than 90 minutes before a meal, or planned to occur more than 90 minutes after a meal, should not be entered, as it does not impact the meal bolus.
As it may be difficult for the patient to estimate how much the insulin dose should be reduced, EkiYou® provides support. The patient is first asked to indicate the duration of the activity, then to select the type of activity from a drop-down menu. A reference table is used to determine the extent to which the insulin bolus will be reduced.
As a final step, the patient must indicate the intensity of the activity. To help guide this choice, the following recommendations can be used:
-
If the patient can speak comfortably during the activity, the intensity is considered low.
-
If heart rate increases and speech becomes fragmented (word by word), the intensity is considered moderate. In most cases, this is the option that will be selected.
-
If the patient is unable to speak during the activity, the intensity is considered high.
-
Very high intensity applies to very few individuals and typically concerns athletes pushing their physical limits.
What is digital therapy?
Digital therapies, also known as DTx for Digital Therapeutics, are digital medical devices, CE marked in Europe.
To be used, a digital therapy must be prescribed by a doctor. It is intended to contribute to the treatment of a pathology, and is integrated into a complete care pathway, often in collaboration with healthcare professionals.
What is the “My Meal Sizes” (PMG) feature?
The “My Meal Sizes” (SML) feature offers a simplified alternative to detailed carbohydrate counting. Patients can choose to log meals using categories (small, medium, or large meal), avoiding the need to log each food item in detail.
The first time they use it, patients set an estimated carbohydrate amount for each meal type (small, medium, large) based on their own habits; if these values are unknown, patients can seek advice from a healthcare professional.
On subsequent uses, they simply select their meal size to get a carbohydrate estimate, with no detailed entry required, while still having the option to add specific foods if needed.
What are the adjustment algorithms included in EkiYou®?
EkiYou® includes adjustment algorithms that automatically adjust the long-acting insulin dose, carbohydrate ratios, and correction factor.
Automatic adjustment of long-acting insulin:
For patients using an insulin pen and a compatible CGM, EkiYou® can suggest an automatic adjustment of the basal insulin dose.
The algorithm analyzes glucose data and recorded injections over the past 14 days to assess whether the current dose is appropriate. Based on overnight glucose trends, it may suggest an increase or decrease in dose. In the event of nocturnal hypoglycemia following an increase, EkiYou® may recommend reverting to the previous dose.
Any proposed change is flagged to the patient via a notification, and the patient remains free to accept or decline it. The change history can be viewed within the app.
Automatic adjustment of carbohydrate ratios and correction factor:
EkiYou® also enables automatic adjustment of insulin-to-carb ratios and the correction factor. The algorithm analyzes glucose data, insulin injections, and meals recorded over the past 14 days, and may suggest a weekly update to these parameters.
To ensure the relevance of these adjustments, patients should be encouraged to use EkiYou® regularly for their meal boluses and correction boluses. Automatic adjustments are limited to ±20% of the previous parameters, and each change is flagged and archived within the app.
When initial parameters are not precisely known, a learning period of approximately three weeks is generally required. During this phase, it is important for the patient to record the doses actually administered, so as to allow recommendations to be gradually personalized.
Note: The adjustment algorithms can be activated during EkiYou®’s initial setup. Otherwise, go to “Account” settings > My Medical Record > Basal Configuration and Bolus Configuration.
How to connect a CGM ?
From the EkiYou home screen, the patient taps the “Account” gear icon at the bottom right, then selects “Devices”.
They tap the “Plus” button to add a glucose sensor and choose the appropriate model.
They are then redirected to a login page where they enter the email address and password used for the sensor’s management platform.
Once connected, EkiYou automatically retrieves sensor data, with an update delay of approximately three hours, depending on the provider.
The data can be viewed in the logbook or on the glucose graph on the home screen.
Is my data reused by DiappyMed?
Yes, certain data may be reused by DiappyMed for internal purposes such as analysis, safety monitoring, performance tracking, and improving EkiYou®, in accordance with our privacy policy.
These analyses are carried out on aggregated, anonymized, or pseudonymized data, depending on the case.
No personal data is sold or provided to third parties for commercial purposes.
